With a metropolitan population of 2,078,405 inhabitants, Belén is the center of the largest metropolitan region of Amazonia, a city located in the northern region of Brazil, and the capital of the state of Pará, which is based on the largest iron deposit in the world, Bethlehem is one of the 12 largest and most important cities in the country, besides being the oldest in Amazonia, founded on January 12, 1616.

Historically, it was the main entry point into the northern region of Brazil, due to its privileged geographical position.
