Philosopher Stefan Molyneux explains why humans are so violent by looking at our evolution amid constant threats of injury, disease and predators. He also answers listener questions on religious trends, physical books, real pleasure and ethical investing.
Questions:
Some statistics show a higher % of younger generations embracing more conservative denominations. You commented on this church trend in males, but my experience is that these places also mostly support child-spanking, a strong centralized gov/ authority, and conformity. Thoughts?
Stefan, in a recent show you may have commented that the young generation no longer reads physical books. I’ve seen a resurgence of analog technology and physical books on the young as a way to rebel against streaming and social media, can you comment on this trend?
Received an argument that I was not articulate enough to properly answer: if hedonism is bad from the philosophical perspective, is caring for your family/community/yourself not hedonism since long-term it is a preservation of your (the selfish) genes? Ethical world=gene survival
Stefan, is investing in bonds unethical sense the interest payout is from cohesive taxation from future generations?
Stefan, can you comment on the current geopolitical conflicts from the religious lens? Orthodox vs protestants in Ukraine, Israeli Jews and American Christians vs Muslims in Iran; how much of what’s going on is motivated through the perspective of the faithful?
