One thing I continue to appreciate about Splinterlands is how much the game teaches me about staying calm and thinking clearly. Before a battle begins, it is easy to feel confident about the team I have selected and the strategy I intend to use. However, once the match starts, I have to accept that I cannot control everything that happens. My opponent has their own strategy, and the outcome depends on how the different cards, abilities, and battle conditions come together.

I think this is one of the interesting parts of playing a strategy game. Preparation is important, but I also need to accept that things might not always happen as expected. Sometimes, a team that looks strong before a match may face difficulties against an unexpected combination. Other times, a strategy that seems simple may turn out to be more effective than I imagined. These situations remind me not to make assumptions too quickly.

Staying calm is important because frustration can affect how I think about the game. After a disappointing result, it can be tempting to rush into another battle immediately, hoping to recover from the previous loss. However, I believe there is value in taking a moment to reflect. Instead of allowing one result to influence my next decision, I can examine what happened and consider whether there is something I should change.

For me, one of the most useful habits is learning to separate the outcome of a battle from the quality of my decisions. A loss does not automatically mean that every choice I made was wrong. Sometimes, I may have made reasonable decisions but still encountered a difficult opponent or an unfavourable situation. At the same time, winning does not necessarily mean that my strategy was perfect. There is always something worth examining if I want to improve.

Another thing I find important is avoiding unnecessary pressure. When I focus too much on winning every match, I can forget that learning is also part of the experience. Every battle does not have to be a perfect performance. Some matches will be difficult, some decisions will not work as expected, and some lessons will only become clear after I have had time to think about them.

I also believe that remaining calm helps me become more open to new strategies. When I am frustrated, I might blame a particular card or assume that a strategy is useless simply because it failed once. With a clearer mind, I can look at the situation more objectively. Perhaps the card was not the problem, but the combination was unsuitable. Maybe I overlooked an ability or failed to consider the battle conditions properly. Thinking this way gives me more useful information than simply becoming disappointed.

Patience also plays a role in how I approach improvement. It takes time to understand different cards, recognize useful combinations, and become familiar with the many possibilities available in Splinterlands. I cannot expect to learn everything immediately, and comparing my progress with that of more experienced players will not necessarily help me. What matters is continuing to learn at my own pace and applying the lessons I discover.

I want to remember that every opponent provides a different challenge. Some players may use combinations I understand well, while others may introduce approaches that force me to reconsider my assumptions. Instead of seeing unfamiliar strategies as something to fear, I can treat them as opportunities to expand my knowledge. The more I observe, the better I can understand the different ways a battle can unfold.

There is also a lesson here that goes beyond gaming. Sometimes, we become so focused on achieving a particular result that we forget to pay attention to the process. We want immediate success, and when it does not happen, we become discouraged. Splinterlands reminds me that preparation, patience, and the ability to learn from mistakes are important parts of making progress.

As I continue my journey, I want to focus on making thoughtful decisions rather than allowing emotions to determine my next move. I want to learn from losses without becoming discouraged by them, appreciate victories without becoming overconfident, and remain willing to try different approaches when necessary.

Every battle is another opportunity to practise these habits. I may not always get the result I want, but I can still gain experience and improve my understanding of the game. Sometimes, the most valuable thing I take away from a match is not a victory but a lesson that helps me approach the next challenge more wisely.
