Lately, I have been thinking about how quickly life moves.

It feels like one minute you are starting something new, and before you know it, months have passed. You look back and realize that you have been so busy trying to move forward that you barely stopped to appreciate where you were.

I think this happens to a lot of us.

We are always thinking about the next thing. The next job. The next opportunity. The next amount of money we want to make. The next place we want to travel to. The next goal we want to achieve.

There is nothing wrong with wanting more. In fact, I think having goals is important. But sometimes I wonder if we spend so much time thinking about the future that we forget to actually live in the present.

University has taught me this in a funny way.

There were times when I couldn’t wait for a particular semester to end. Then I couldn’t wait for another level. Then I couldn’t wait to graduate. Now, when I look back, I realize that some of the moments I wanted to rush through were actually moments I should have enjoyed more.

The same thing happens outside school.

Sometimes we think we will finally be happy when we have more money, get a better job, buy a car, move to a better place or achieve a certain goal.

But what happens when we finally get there?

Usually, another goal appears.

That is why I have started to believe that happiness cannot always be postponed until everything is perfect.

There are small things that deserve appreciation too.

A good conversation with someone you care about. Laughing at something completely random. Having a peaceful day. Playing football. Listening to music. Going somewhere new. Even just having time to sit down and think.

These things may look insignificant, but they become memories.

I also think we need to stop comparing our progress with everyone else’s.

Social media makes it seem like everybody is moving faster than you. Someone is getting a new job. Someone is travelling. Someone is making money. Someone is starting a business. Someone is graduating.

You see all of this and start wondering, “What am I doing with my life?”

But we rarely see the full story behind those posts.

Everyone has their own timing.

Maybe you are not behind. Maybe you are simply on a different path.

I am still figuring out a lot of things myself. Career, money, relationships, goals and what I really want from the future.

I don’t have everything figured out, and I don’t think I need to.

For now, I just want to keep learning, keep trying new things and enjoy the journey a little more.

Because sometimes, the goal should not always be to get somewhere as quickly as possible.

Sometimes, you just need to slow down and realize that you are already living parts of the life you once wished for.

And honestly, I think that is something worth appreciating.

What is one thing you have learned recently that changed the way you look at life?
