There is something interesting about speed in Splinterlands that I am beginning to appreciate more. When choosing monsters, it is easy to focus on attack power and health because those statistics are easy to understand. However, speed can also influence how a battle develops. A monster that attacks earlier may have an opportunity to weaken an opponent before that opponent gets its turn. This is why I wanted to learn more about the Swiftness ability.
Swiftness increases the Speed of all friendly monsters by one. What makes this ability useful is that it does not focus on just one card. Instead, it supports the entire team by making friendly monsters faster. When several monsters benefit from the same ability, the effect can influence the way the whole lineup performs.
I started thinking about how useful this could be when facing an opponent with powerful attackers. If my monsters have higher Speed, they may get opportunities to attack earlier in a round. This could help me weaken the enemy before it has a chance to respond. Of course, having higher Speed does not guarantee that every monster will attack first, but it can improve my team’s position in the battle.
Another thing I find interesting is how speed can influence the chance of attacks landing. In Splinterlands, differences in Speed affect hit and miss chances for certain attacks. This means Swiftness can offer more than just the possibility of acting earlier. Depending on the matchup, the additional Speed may also make my monsters harder to hit with Melee and Ranged attacks.
However, I have learned that speed should not be the only thing I consider when building a team. A fast monster with very low health can still be eliminated quickly if an enemy manages to hit it. Similarly, a team that attacks early but deals very little damage may struggle against a stronger opponent. I still need a good balance between Speed, attack power, and survivability.
I also think Swiftness becomes more interesting when several friendly monsters can benefit from it. Rather than improving one attacker, it supports the entire lineup. If my team contains monsters with different roles, making them faster can help the whole team become more effective. My attackers may get earlier opportunities to deal damage, while my other monsters can contribute according to their abilities.
At the same time, I need to consider the enemy’s strategy. If the opposing team already has very high Speed, increasing my own team’s Speed might help close the gap. But if the opponent relies mainly on powerful Magic attacks, the benefits may be different from what I would get against a team of Melee and Ranged attackers. The right choice depends on the situation.
This has made me realize that support abilities deserve more attention during team selection. A monster does not always have to deal the most damage to be valuable. Sometimes, its biggest contribution is making the other monsters better. Swiftness is a good example because one ability can improve the Speed of multiple friendly cards and potentially influence the entire battle.
I also want to become better at reading the rulesets before choosing my lineup. Some conditions can change how important Speed becomes, so I should not automatically use the same strategy in every match. Understanding the available rules and the strengths of my cards can help me decide whether Swiftness is worth including.
The more I learn about Splinterlands, the more I understand that small advantages can become important when they work together. Higher Speed, good positioning, reliable damage, and useful defensive abilities can all contribute to a stronger team. I want to keep experimenting with different combinations and become more thoughtful about how each card supports the others.
