HOW CAN WE ALL BECOME A GOOD EDITORS?

  • In order to achieve success in video editing, you need to be proactive. You need to remember that although I said previously, that making a short video can take a lot of time, you also need to be very fast and energetic about it because a video is something that clients always want as soon as possible, and sometimes it can even be impromptu.

  • You need to be a good communicator. If you intend on taking your video editing skills to a higher level in terms of Movie making, then you would have to interact with many other video editors as well as directors and other production staff in order to make a successful video, which is why communication is very vital.

  • And also, you have to be calm and pay attention to key details in your work. Sometimes you have to be a problem solver, because you will find yourself in difficult situations, and you would have to use your initiative to figure out how to get it done.

EFFECTS

As I showed you in one of my last posts about video editing, this is the effects section:

Effects create change in speed, change in color, change in distortions, and adds a little bit of artistic filters, (depending on which one you use) to your work, and many more.
The next three effects I’ll be talking to you about today are:

  • Adjust

And under Adjust, i use the extract effect.

Extract is Mainly used to turn a video or picture into black and white. You can adjust the amount of black you want, and also the amount of white that you want in the new look of the video.

  • Blur and sharpen

Under blur and sharpen i use the gaussian blur.
This can be used to blur a picture or a video to your satisfaction.
There are so many uses for this such as blurring of plate numbers, blurring faces in investigations, and many more.

The last effect is also under blur and sharpen, and is called sharpen.

This is used to add a little bit of an animated look to a video.
The video looks a bit scrappy and similar to a cartoon-like look.

TRANSITIONS

And now for transitions, as I said previously, transitions are mainly used when moving from one video to another.
These are some of the best transitions in premiere pro(Continued).

The three i will talk about today are:

  • Page peel

Page peel is a transition which makes it look like a page is being turned/flipped form one to another, when moving from video to video.

  • Wipe

There are serval categories under the
wipe option such as Venetian blinds, which gives it the actual look of Venetian, including the horizontal lines.

  • Random Wipe

The random wipe effect is under the Wipe option, the same as venetian blinds, and it gives you a line, which goes from the bottom to the top, and as the line passes through, a new video emerges along.

Another fact you need to know about premier pro is that you always need to render your work, time after time, during the process of making a video.
This is important because if you do not render, you video would not be smooth, and it would be consistently cracking and breaking.
This then means you would not be able to watch you video while your making it, and it can lead to a bad work because you can’t even see what your doing properly.
You are required to render every time you edit a video, no matter how small the change/edit is.

HOW DO WE RENDER?

Rendering is very easy, all you have to do is press the enter button.
On some days it can be really fast, and on some days, very slow, it’s speed also depends on how much effects have been used, and how complex the video is.

What i even do sometimes, is to select certain parts that i want to render, one after the other, because when it’s slow, it can be really annoying, but it’s very important.

And Lastly, it is also very advisable, not to use too much effects and transitions in one video, because if you do so, it would look very complicated, and seem as if too much is going on in one video, it may seem cool at first, but with time you realize it looks scattered, and it’s not it.
Even clients might not appreciate it
.

I hope you have enjoyed this post about video editing, and you have learnt something new.

Thank you and see you soon.
