When I browse the Splinterlands marketplace, I sometimes find myself looking beyond cards that are simply powerful. I am more interested in finding monsters that can give me additional options when building my team. A card does not have to be expensive or popular to become a valuable addition to my collection.

One thing I consider is whether a monster can fit into different strategies. Some cards are useful in several situations because of their abilities, while others are more specialised. I enjoy finding cards that offer flexibility because they give me more choices when the rulesets and mana limits change.

I also pay attention to cards that become more useful at higher levels. Sometimes, the basic version looks ordinary, but unlocking another ability can completely change how I view the monster. This makes me think carefully before deciding whether to buy a single copy or work towards upgrading it.

Another important factor is the cost of upgrading. Buying a card is only part of the decision. If I want to reach a particular level, I need to consider how many copies are required and whether the additional expense is worth it. I would rather understand the full cost before making a purchase than discover later that upgrading is more expensive than expected.

The marketplace also teaches me patience. Prices can vary, and there is no reason to accept the first listing I see. Comparing available offers gives me a better idea of what a card is worth and helps me avoid unnecessary spending.

I have also started appreciating the difference between buying cards for playing and buying them for collecting. Sometimes, I might want a monster because its ability is useful in battles. Other times, its artwork, rarity, or edition makes it interesting to own. Both reasons are valid, but knowing which one matters most helps me make better decisions.

I do not want to build a collection simply to have a large number of cards. I want to own monsters that give me room to experiment, improve my strategies, and enjoy different parts of the game.

For now, I prefer taking my time with purchases. There will always be another interesting card to discover, but making thoughtful decisions will help me build a collection that I can genuinely appreciate.
