I remember the 'nuclear wessels' line :) I think sometimes there can be some over-correction going on. German doesn't have a 'wuh' sound either and when I lived over there the Queen song Invisible Man was out. On the radio they called it Inwisible Man as they were probably getting mixed up with our English V and W sounds. An English speaker learning German is likely to make similar mistakes as they get to know the letter sounds.

Teasing someone over their accent is cruel, especially when that person has taken the effort to learn your language. English can be a hard one as it's so inconsistent.

I've got nothing against the Russian people. It is their leaders who are pushing for conflict and they will want to sow division between cultures.
