I read a lot of Asimov in my youth and he had interesting ideas about robotics many years ago. He even had robot psychologists. Then there's stuff like Blade Runner where they have androids that are hard to tell from humans, but they are exploited. I was thinking that in Star Wars you have 'droids' who seem to have feelings, but they may be treated as slaves and disposable. Some of them are killers, but I noticed the police droids in the Darth Maul series would only stun whilst humans shot to kill. The Matrix had AI turning against us. Given how self-destructive humans can be we may need machines to look out for us.

I've read some interesting thoughts about AI in books by Yuval Noah Harari. I've thought for a while that it may emulate consciousness, but things are moving fast and there will be ethical issues around this. There may already be autonomous killing machines out there.

I do think that AI can do amazing things, but generating image/music/video slop is a waste of energy. We should be preserving human creativity and let the machines do the drudge work for us.
