Given the speed things are moving they did a write-up based on what they knew at the time and I expect the models have been reviewed as more data comes in. That is how science works. Meanwhile other scientists have other models and I would hope our governments take advice based on more than one, if they did not shut down the necessary departments.
That initial Imperial study talks about half a million in the UK dying over 2 years if we did nothing. A month on it's about 10,000. Some may say we acted too late and that would have a big impact on infections. The rate of spread of the virus may still not be definite.
Scientists are human. They have egos and pride. Nobody likes being proved wrong, but it happens all the time in science and you have to accept it. It's just worse when that proof is a big pile of bodies. Would you like that responsibility? At least they had the guts to put out their ideas without saying they knew it all. I know I go on about the orange one, but he spouts a lot of crap about how he 'feels' it will go and I think he's getting reality shock as bodies pile up.
We are lucky to be free to express our opinions (unlike in China and other places). By all means do so. I am basing mine on what I read from what I am reading. It is a developing situation.
The cat will be fine, so please don't worry about her.
Stay well.
