This weekend Steem turned three years old. I joined about six months after it started and have seen a lot of changes in that time. I might have hoped it would be a lot bigger by now. As it is we have about 1.2 million accounts according to the stats from . Of those most are pretty much inactive. I started the #TenKMinnows initiative to try to increase the engaged users. It has been fairly successful as we have over 80 more minnows than when it started a month ago, but we cannot take credit for all of them. We may not add 250 in March as
hoped, but it is an improvement. Does anyone know which whale dropped to orca?
Over this weekend I have seen several people we have helped get to minnow. I hope this is just a step on their journey to greater things:
Meanwhile I have been claiming accounts with my resource credits. I think you need a few thousand SP to be able to do this, but I can claim several each week and I had built up a few. I had already created one for my cat, , to try it out and also a couple for people I know, but I wanted to use up some more. I advertised this on Twitter and it went a little crazy thanks to lots of re-tweets.
Several of these people have contacted me via DM or email and I have created six accounts so far using SteemWorld by . That makes it very simple.
I then email the keys to each person with some guidance on how to proceed. I do include a few of my referral links in case they choose to use them, but I do not expect payment for this service. I tell them they ought to change their keys as soon as possible.
Two of the six already had small Steem accounts and wanted an extra one for a different topic or a friend. I will not say who they all are at this point as I do not think any are really active yet. I have delegated some SP to those who need it as you cannot operate an account with none. I will be reviewing their status over the next month or so. I am being a little choosy in who I add as some of them had nothing original on Twitter.
I have posted the same offer to Facebook, Google+ (shutting down very soon), Minds and Bitlanders. Feel free to share my tweet link elsewhere if you cannot claim accounts yourself.
I'm doing all this because I want Steem to grow and be better. That could happen if we can get enough creative people active here so that there is enough good content to bring in people of all interests. It really needs some big names, but I do not have access to those. We also need lots more active accounts who will vote up the good stuff.
The success of Steem is down to us all.
Steem on!
