I have posted several times about Keybase. It started as a way to connect with other people who use encryption (PGP/GPG) and verify your identity by letting you post signed messages on various services. Proving your identity is very useful if you want to be trusted. Their site allows for encrypting messages to people or verifying that they signed something.
Other facilities they offer include free cloud storage, which is encrypted and allows for sharing files with specific people, secure chat (end to end encryption) and secure version control.
They also added a Stellar Lumens wallet a while back, but I had not used this. Now they have arranged to give away a substantial amount of this crypto to their users.
They will be distributing millions of dollars in Lumens over the next 20 months starting in October. There are only about half a million users, so it could be a nice amount. There is no referral scheme involved, so I do not benefit if you take up the offer. You can just give me a vote.
There are limitations. You either need to be an existing Keybase user or to create an account and add it to a Github or Hackernews account that existed before the offer started. They need to do something to prevent people creating lots of fake accounts.
Whether you can qualify for this or not you can get some Lumens for free from Coinbase. I have done a few of their giveaways and used most of it to buy more Steem as that is just more useful to me right now.
There is a Steem chatroom on Keybase if you want to join us. I am hoping someone can integrate Steem with their verification system some time. People should be able to write an appropriate post or even a comment to verify they control a Steem account. It just needs a bit of coding to link it in with their server.
