Description from Strava:
It was a little cooler out this morning and I decided to head down to Ickleford for a change. I may not have done that route this year. Some of the paths were a bit overgrown so I was dodging thistles and nettles in places.
From Arlesey common you pretty much follow the river. This path is called the Hicca Way and is named after a Saxon tribe. The path goes further north and south, but I have yet to walk it all.
The path cuts right across some wheat fields. The farmers have left a track, but I am not sure how they do it. I wonder if they spray something to stop the wheat growing there.
I did not see any people down that way, but there were sheep and horses in the fields. At Ickleford you have to go under the railway bridge where there is no footpath so care is needed. Then it is past the lavender farm to pick up the path to Letchworth. I do like that one as it has great views over the countryside. You can see several villages as well as the lavender fields and can pick out landmarks like the water towers that are miles away.
That path comes out by The Wilbury pub that was uses as The World's End in the film of that name. Then I just followed the road back to Fairfield that goes up and down a bit. By then my legs were tiring.
I went around Fairfield to pick up the downhill drive to Arlesey. Down there I saw a friend with his family starting their run.
I was not checking my heart rate on this run, so it was a little quicker than other recent long runs. It would probably still count as an easy run as I was not pushing hard, but I was feeling it anyway.
Enjoy your Sunday and run free!
