Description from Strava:
The weather continues to be mixed and it felt quite humid as I jogged to the parkrun this morning. That will mean getting hot and sweaty. I did not really have a feeling for how I would do.
Some of the regulars were there, but I know some are doing the Great North Run tomorrow. Apparently it is the Run Around The Garden in Letchworth tomorrow, but I had not realised. I did it last year.
I set off at a comfortable pace and just tried to push for a decent time. As always it felt like hard work, but I just kept on going. On the first lap a guy came zooming past me, so I wonder if he arrived late at the start. We each run our own race.
The course was fine today. You always have to watch out for some roots. I have done it so many times that I know every bit of it.
I managed a bit of a sprint at the end to get my second best time of the year by one second. I am happy with that. I was 37th of 129 and first in my age category. There were some older guys ahead though.
I saw a friend at the finish who went to Bushy last week. That is where parkrun started and it was their 1000th event. Over 6000 people ran it! I really ought to go some time, but may try to avoid the busy weeks. Usually they get about 1400.
I jogged most of the way home and had to cool down for a while before my shower and then a coffee. We are watching lot of Paralympics and that is really inspiring. These people have to cope with their disabilities, but still manage to do amazing feats.
Someone keeps leaving slices of bread on our road. I have never seen them do it. If they wanted to feed the birds they could leave it on the grass.
I am off to Hivefest in Split, Croatia next week, so I will try to run there. They do not have a parkrun.
Run free!
