This housing issue is happening at a municipal level. If there is this much dysfunction at the local level, the federal government must be staggeringly inept and wasteful.
Toronto, as well as most large cities has a big problem with finding enough affordable housing. The headline showed the ineptitude of the government in glaring detail.
There are 1400 empty units that were specifically built to safely house lower income people. I live in Toronto and have seen hotels and motels filled with people waiting for affordable housing. It’s so frustrating to now realize that this many units were sitting empty.
The solution seems so obvious. Put people on the wait list into these empty units. I presume that such a simple idea is too logical for the people in charge, or else it would already have been done.
These are the type of problems that arise with a bloated government that isn’t streamlined.
