Counteparty is a P2P financial platform built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, that provides secure financial tools and markets, not requiring a third party to use.
If in the future Bitcoin is surpassed by another coin, moving the entire network to another blockchain would take no more than a couple of days.

Since these Bitcoins can never be spent again they can be considered burned, allowing XCP to be launched without anyone having a pre-existing supply, even the founders.
Since XCP is used as the fuel for each step of Counterpartys smart contracts, the supply of XCP is constantly decreasing as the fuel is appropriately burned.
