Whether you have chosen to believe it or not, there’s no doubt that you’ve heard the story of Adam and Eve-the first two humans on earth—at least once. But what if there was someone that existed before Eve? Well, there was. Her name was Lilith and she was a voice for women everywhere, past, present and future. But what was she? Where did she go? Why did she leave Adam? In this article, we’ll talk about Lilith a bit more in depth.

The Story of Lilith

According to recently uncovered ancient texts that ere carbon dated to be written around the same time as the book of Genesis (and even believed to be the missing parts of Genesis), a woman named Lilith was created at the exact moment that Adam was. She possessed all of the same attributes as him. She was not from his rib bone, but rather, from the dust of the earth, just as he was. Lilith was created to be Adam’s equal. She was described as having flowing orange hair and was beautiful in every way imaginable. To some, she is described as “the perfect woman”.

Everything is good and well while Lilith and Adam frolicked among the forested and sunny paradise that God had provided for them. That is, however, until Adam demanded that Lilith lie underneath him during their sexual relations. She took this as a sign that Adam meant that she was below him. The two argued about it to the point of violence. When God saw what was going on, immediately put a stop to it, and cast Lilith out into the underworld to live eternally as a demon.

Adam was then given a brand new wife that was created from his rib to ensure that she would succumb to whatever he demanded because she was an actual, physical extension of him. It’s no secret as to what happens next in this story.

Lilith as a Demon

While she was cast out by God into demonhood forever, many women today look up to her in a way. For some, she is a symbol of feminism, willpower, and a prime example of what exactly might be wrong with the world even today. It is stated in ancient texts that God allowed her to take a mirror with her into her new home in the Underworld in order for her to see what she has turned into. He thought that he was punishing her by doing so, but as we all know, women have the capability to make anything beautiful, and she did just that. Lilith proudly hung her mirror and enjoyed looking at herself every day. She felt proud over what she had done and was pleased to finally be left alone from the demands of Adam.

It is stated that in order for her to seek out her revenge on men, she became a succubus. A succubus is a demon who seeks out human men in the night and engages in sexual intercourse with them, and in all honesty, it’s easy to see how this was the perfect type of revenge. She would take a piece of her mirror with her when she entered the human world that she was once promised, and hold it up to men. The men would become hypnotized as they gazed into the mirror, and once they were under her spell, she would have sex with them, and then reproduce. She was indiscriminate with the types of men that she lured in to her vengeful plan, and it was also written that one of the only other emotions she felt besides pride was sympathy.
According to the stories, Lilith bore hundreds of thousands of children that are half demon, half human over the past few dozen centuries and is still continuing to do so today. This would definitely explain some of the evil people and outright wrong doings on this planet. But is there truth to it?

Conclusively, the story of Lilith, as much of the bible and other types of ancient spiritual stories, is chalked up to being mythological. Today, she is mostly seen in Jewish mythology or different types of pagan practices. If you have spiritual beliefs, you may believe in Lilith. Even if you do not, Lilith is truly a large symbol for feminists and gender equality worldwide. In more modern times, it is sometimes referred to as “letting your inner Lilith out” when one does something brave or courageous to help themselves succeed in area where you may not because of your gender.
