Ted Bundy : The Most Handsome Serial Killer

Noted as the world’s most handsome serial killer, Ted Bundy certainly had a lot to hide under his studly face. It’s scary to think about—you think you’ve found the man of your dreams; he’s educated, financially stable, and on top of it all--dashingly good looking. He only has two hang-ups--he’s actually a murderer and probably presenting you with a fake identity. No big deal, right?!

The Story of Ted Bundy

Perhaps the biggest oddity about Ted Bundy is that he suffered otherwise no types of abuse from his family while growing up. In fact, Theodore “Ted” Bundy ended up doing so well in school, he received a scholarship to the University of Washington. He excelled in his studies there, and even fell in love with a woman who was incredibly attractive, came from a long line of money, and was influential within the university’s many clubs and activities. As with many college relationships, however, it came to a close after a few months, and Ted Bundy found himself floored.
He persevered, though, and still attained his Bachelors of Psychology in 1972. He even found himself accepted to law school with letters of recommendation from political officials in Washington at the time. What no one knew is that the successful Ted Bundy was harboring a dark secret—when he wasn’t hitting the books and getting into law school, he was raping and killing beautiful dark haired women who resembled the girl who broke his heart a few years prior.
He was seemingly flying through law school with flying colors as he re-kindled his relationship with his first girlfriend. She was pleased with his progress and determination to attain his degree, and the two talked of marriage very much. One day, though, in 1974, he put all phone calls and courtship with her to a halt. She called him one day and demanded to know why, and Ted Bundy’s only response was, “I have no idea what you mean,” and quickly hung up.
He dropped out of law school entirely not long after this strange happening. A few weeks later, he broke into a basement of a stripper who was also attending the University of Washington. He bashed her head in with a rod that came from her own bed frame, and continued to sexually assault her with it as well. She was unconscious for over a week until she pulled through and lived the rest of her life handicapped. This story was becoming more and more common around the area. Women were disappearing left and right from their dorm rooms and showing up raped, beaten, and dead in the vast forestry of Seattle. Authorities were searching for the killer, but no evidence had ever been found.
Amidst all of this murderous commotion, Ted Bundy was working for the government in an emergency services branch and was dating a divorced single mother of two. More and more women kept coming up as missing, and Bundy continued to live a “normal” and perfect life. Similarities within the victims began to be noticed by authorities—they were all wearing blue jeans, had long brown hair parted in the middle, and were beautiful. Eventually, witnesses were coming forward and reporting a man sighted around the areas who was driving a brownish colored Volkswagen even though his arm was in a sling. Ted Bundy was the furthest from being their suspect, and because of that, he felt that he was in the clear, and continued to avidly kidnap and kill women that matched his seemingly preferred victim profile.
A year later, he impersonated a police officer and informed a young phone operator that he had seen someone trying to break into her car. He told her that she needed to come back with him to the station to make a report about it, but on the ride, he attempted to handcuff her to the vehicle. She was able to escape, but that didn’t stop Ted Bundy from persevering to get his kill for the week in. Just hours later, he successfully kidnapped and killed a seventeen year old high school student.
He moved across the country performing these awful crimes, and in a two year span, it is believed that he kidnapped and murdered over thirty young women still matching the description of the girl that had first broken his heart.
It wouldn’t be until 1975 that a police officer in Utah had seen Ted Bundy speeding off after noticing the police car. The officer pursued him and once he pulled Ted Bundy over, found ski masks, a crowbar, handcuffs, garbage bags, ice picks, and a lot of rope. This was probable cause to arrest him. He had escaped from prison twice and lived in the woods for a bit. He stole cars and took on a fake identity, and continued to kill women. Eventually, after his second escape from prison, he was captured in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1979 after failing to be able to find legitimate employment without giving his ID and thus, his name that had been on the nationwide fugitive list for some time now. His trial took place in Florida and was convicted of over thirty counts of kidnapping and murder. He was sentenced to death by electric shock, and died in 1989 just as the judge ordered him to.

In the time, of his trials however, he was receiving many love letters and even ended up getting married while on death row. The girlfriends he had during his time on the outside testified on his behalf, and were just as shocked as the rest of the nation when they found out he had been the one behind so many vicious homicides.
