Human beings love when shit makes sense. We love it a little too much that we’ve created all these labels so that we know precisely who we’re talking to, what kind of business we’re getting into, and so on. Ever seen human beings without inflated egos? Me neither. Sucks for us as they take too much place and too often fuck shit up for us. Things need to make sense for us to be at ease. It’s like we have this incessant need to know where we stand, which also often involves knowing where others stand toward us. We need to know, for the sake of knowing. What’s the difference between a labeled relationship and an unlabelled relationship? From a physical standpoint, there is none. It’s not as if we walk around with our marital status written on our forehead. And yet, this need to know can sometime be a matter of life or death. “If you don’t make up your mind, we’re over.”

Our conscience resents uncertainties. Having to make sense of the nonsense is too painful of a reality for us to bear. We need to compartmentalize all the shit that happens to us on the regular. Doesn’t matter if it’s worthy of our attention or not, remember who calls the shot? Blame it on the sheer power of the human mind.

Ever felt guilty of leaving unfinished business at work when it absolutely needed to be done? I’ll assume you probably did. Now let’s transpose this supposed guilt into your personal life. Ever felt guilty of not giving closure to someone whom you made exit from your life? Do your two answers match? Why is it that we treat work matters (that most likely do not involve broken hearts, fragile emotions, and such) like it is the most important duty in the world, and treat real human beings made of flesh and blood like they aren’t even worthy of our attention? This is what happens when we live in a society that’s based off superficialities and preaches workaholic tendencies like a desirable lifestyle

Our set of priorities are skewed. Most of us treat our emotional realities like they aren’t worthy of our time and attention. Maybe that’s why we do the same with other people who demand from us answers. How the fuck am I supposed to give you answers when I can’t even find my own? Once again, closing our eyes to our internal world can come at a high price. We can’t give closure because we’re slaves to our own unconsciousness.
