“Just because you’re an expert in one thing, that doesn’t make you an expert in everything.”
― Frank Sonnenberg
It’s not because you’re a supposed expert that you graduated from the school of self awareness. Oh believe me I already know you could care less about something that doesn’t come in the form of a degree. The more we know, the more we like to stroke our own egos. Yet knowing better doesn’t mean doing better. Expertise too often comes with the side effect of being oblivious of our own biases. Because wearing expert pants on the regular suddenly makes us immune to human fuckups. We think we’re so above it all that we forget that having 26 diplomas hanging in our office doesn’t mean we can’t get called out for having lost touch with this shit called reality.
Pride can easily blur one’s vision. Yet another reason as to why you should stop trying to turn expertise into some sort of religion. You ain’t no prophet. You’re like the rest of us - a human being figuring it out while trying their best. You don’t wanna lose face, but it comes at the cost of losing your authenticity. Oh so you want to keep your credibility? Maybe instead of pretending to be a know-it-all you should admit defeat and remember that you’re-only-human-after-all.
