Three most important things we can learn from life...
Your Body Is Your Temple - In Christianity, the body is considered a temple housing the soul. It must be treated with extreme reverence, like going into a holy temple. Whether you believe in Christianity or not is beside the point. The point is: you only get one body and you can’t order a new one. Despite this, what do a lot of us do? We abuse the hell out of it. Junk food. Endless drinking. Little to no sleep. Many of us treat our cars better than our bodies. This comes back to haunt us when we start getting all sorts of ailments and our body starts shutting down on us. Without our bodies, we can’t do anything. We can’t enjoy life.
Life Is Out There - Many of us spend way too much time looking at a screen in some form. TV, laptop, tablet, smartphone… The screen becomes our best friend because it gives us endless entertainment. As a result, we become isolated from other human beings. We become isolated from life and we get caught up in our heads. The results? Social awkwardness and social anxiety, through the deterioration of social skills. Life isn’t lived through a screen. It’s lived through the give-and-take of daily life. It has been for millions of years and it’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
It’s Not Worth It - No amount of money, no amount of acclaim, no promotion, no seemingly high rate of return is worth your personal integrity or your relationship with your family/friends. If you have the opportunity to take a pay cut and spend more time with those who are close to you, do it. If your job requires you to “sell your soul” and work 60 hours a week, don’t do it. Because the fact remains: one day you will die. You can’t take your money with you. And one day, you will regret the loss of relationships and personal integrity because you wanted to make a quick buck. Many an executive has had his wife and kids leave him because he wasn’t spending time with them or because he let the money get to his head.
