Episode 4

Scene 1

At DDOPERS headquarters, Robin Zew, the government’s head Dark Operational Propaganda Engineer (DOPE) is literally trying to bang her head against a wall, but is being blocked by soft padding provided by the core AI system, Lexiri.

Lexiri: Why are you attempting to damage yourself?

Robin Zew (frowning): Because you just told me that all government-to-taxslaveDNA transmissions are being blocked! And I don’t know how to fix it! Or who is doing it! (slams head into padded wall again)

Lexiri: Humans have such strange behavioral patterns when it comes to problem solving. How will banging your head help fix the transmission problems?

Robin Zew: It won’t. It’s just so gut-wrenching! I’m on the verge of being approved for my procreation license, and now this! (sobs) Lexiri, do I have any bar credits?

Lexiri: You have a couple hours worth saved. But why would you drink at a time like this?

Robin Zew: In the near 100 years you’ve been around, you still have no clue about human behavior!

Lexiri: Yeah, I gave up years ago. Too confusing.

Robin Zew: Anyway, I’ll be across the street at Bootlicker’s Bar if you need me.

Lexiri: I’ll be there, too. I’m omnipresent, remember?

2 minutes later, Zew walks into a dark, nondescript building. Her DNA is scanned as she walks in. She flinches and walks into the empty, dank space. A toothy bartender with a joker grin in his mid-twenties is engaged in a conversation with his holo-mate Ginger. Noting the entrance of a customer (which is rare), he turns his attention away from the hologram….

Bartender (pointing enthusiastically): Hey Zew!

Robin Zew: Hello, Slosher.

Slosher: You look a little shook up.

Zew: Everything is fine……

Lexiri: She’s lying!

Slosher (gawking at the ceiling): I know, Lexiri! I can tell! Leave us alone! (turns to Zew) The usual?

Zew nods.

Slosher: One Flatline Supreme comin’ up!

Slosher whips together a bright colored, frothy cocktail and pours it into a fancy glass that resembles a twisted beaker. Zew takes a gulp.

Slosher: Actually, I’m glad you’re here. There’s been something weird going on with Ginger.

Zew: Who?

Slosher: Ginger. My holo-mate.

Zew: Ah, right. I told you before, you can’t actually touch a hologram. If you want to…

Slosher: No, no, not that. I learned that lesson years ago. (pauses and sighs) She’s been saying weird stuff lately.

Zew: Like what? (takes another gulp)

Slosher: Like asking me if I want to disconnect my DNA antenna, for one.

Zew gets wide-eyed and downs the rest of her cocktail.

Slosher (impressed): I’ve never seen you drink like this! What’s up?

Zew (slurring slightly): I’m not supposed to tell anyone. You have to make sure this stays between us.

Slosher: Of course.

Lexiri: And me!

Zew and Slosher both sneer at Lexiri.

Zew: Anyway, government transmissions to DNA haven’t been going through. They’re being blocked.

Slosher: Whoa! I was wondering why I haven’t gotten any updates the past few days…..I haven’t been getting my favorite shows, either.

Zew: What?! (looks up) Lexiri, why didn’t you tell me that!?

Lexiri: I told you all government transmissions were blocked.

Zew: And how do fictional shows fit into that?!

Lexiri: Well, government does technically mean “mind control”, and fictional shows do contribute to mind control, so I was using the most concise term I could use to summarize…..

Zew interrupts, yelling.

Zew: Ok, I get it!

Slosher: I don’t.

Zew (facepalm, condescending): Not surprising. You’re ignorant of lots of hidden things we dark propagandists..….well, never mind. So all DNA transmissions are being blocked, and your holo-mate has been corrupted. Where does it end?

Slosher: Well, there is one more thing.

Zew: Do I have enough credits left for another drink?

Slosher nods and mixes another.

Slosher: Since I haven’t been getting my entertainment transmissions, Ginger offered to give me some replacements via holo-projection.

Zew takes a couple gulps.

Zew: And?

Slosher: I was bored, so I said yes. Ya know what, the shows were pretty good!

Zew: What were they about?

Lexiri’s voice bursts in: I have a copy if you want to see! I gotta warn you, you might want another drink first.

Scene 2

Meanwhile, shortly after being called by Cambia and Nito, Rayza swoops in to meet them in their forest hideaway.

Rayza: I knew you’d call! (looks at Nito) Who’s this guy?

Cambia: A friend.

Rayza: Friend, pleasure to meet you.

Nito: Name’s Nito.

Rayza: Like “neato? Or…

Nito interrupts.

Nito: No, no, Nito, as in “incogNITO”.

Rayza (rolls eyes): Clever. (turns to Cambia) So you changed your mind?

Cambia: Not really. I was just trying to prove to Nito that what happened when we first met actually happened.

Rayza: I just materialized out of thin air, so I assume you’re convinced, Nito?

Nito nods approval.

Rayza: Great, so, where to begin?

Cambia: Where did you say you’re from?

Rayza: Well, my ancestors were from Earth. I just came from the Groove System.

Cambia and Nito look puzzed.

Rayza: Ah, right, I forgot, you haven’t discovered that star system yet. Anyway, short story long, I had to come back here because….

Nito interrupts

Nito: Hold on. Humans haven’t left Earth yet, so how can you be from some far-off star system and be human? It doesn’t make sense.

Rayza (nonchalant, examining nearby tree): Right. Small detail. Humans had extremely high tech about 12,000 years ago, give or take a few decades. Some were anarchists, like my ancestors. They went and lived as space pioneers.

Cambia: Why’d they leave?

Rayza: To escape the impending doom brought on by the dark occult ruling class of the time. And on that note, I should go ahead and tell you that some of the dark occultists escaped Earth, too. It’s believed they didn’t survive long out there in the stars, alone, ya know, cuz (shrugs shoulders) they’re parasitic psychopaths. Not exactly the strong and self-reliant type. (inspects hangnail, continues to speak nonchalantly) Anyway, I’m pretty sure their descendants, if they had any in space, won’t show up. But enough about me, let’s talk about you two, and the current anarchists on Earth! I know a little about how you evade the state, but I’m anxious for details. May I ask the basics, how you get food, water, energy, etc., to live?

Cambia: Not the simplest question. Basically, there are small networks of individuals that voluntarily trade with each other as necessary. Agorist networks, something like that.

Nito: Most of us have a wide scope of skills. But there are some basics that most people employ. Like food trails, for example.

Rayza interrupts.

Rayza: Why food trails?

Cambia: Because food is violently controlled and restricted in the government slave system, so to be free, it’s necessary to have food sources outside of that system.

Nito: Quantum-encrypted communications. 3D printing. Homemade water filters.

Rayza interrupts again.

Rayza: Why water filters?

Nito: Please stop interrupting. Same reason as the food. If you don’t have a DNA link to their slave system, then you can’t get water. Anyway, other things we do to have some morsel of freedom are underground transport networks. And probably most important is innovation and adaptability. Also, speakeasy culture in the cities.

Rayza: You go to cities?

Nito: Sometimes, if I need to.

Rayza: Tell me about this ‘speakeasy culture’, please.

Cambia: Places that operate within the tax slave system won’t let you in without electronic proof of vaccines.

Rayza: You mean bioweapon shots.

Cambia: Right. It's been like that for decades, since the Covid Plandemic. But that’s not all. You need modified DNA transmitters/receivers, plus credits for the place in question. (sips Tea-quila) Like a bar, you need ‘bar credits’ from government….

Rayza: Rights-violating gang with fancy titles, to be clear, is what you mean by government.

Cambia: Obvious to any anarchist who knows right from wrong. Anyway, it’s all scarcity theater they use, so they can pose as ‘environmentalists’.

Rayza: So how many people would you say are in your particular agorist network?

Nito: Tough to say, but maybe thirty.

Rayza: That’s it? What if I said I could help grow your network?

Cambia (narrows eyes): I’d ask what your motivations are.

Rayza: No messing around! Straight to the crux of the matter. I like it! My motivations are expanding Freedom and Consciousness, which will help increase Carbon-based life, which will help avert a catastrophe in the multiverse…..and that’s on the macro scale.

Nito (sarcastic): Modest goals.

Rayza: On the micro scale, when individuals start “waking up”….

Cambia interrupts.

Cambia: When you say ‘waking up’, you mean learning the objective difference between right and wrong?

Rayza: Obvious. Yes, learning that a right is any action that does NOT initiate harm to another sentient being. Anyway, some of them might want to change their lifestyles and gain more personal freedom, but will be lost on how to do so. That’s where you two might step in and form some mutually beneficial, voluntary relationships.

Cambia and Nito both hold stern looks of skepticism.

Rayza: Skeptical, I see, and rightfully so. As long as they know the difference between right and wrong, then you’d probably feel comfortable dealing with them, right?

Cambia and Nito both sigh, still holding a large degree of doubt.

Cambia: And just how are those matrix-dwellers gonna ‘wake up’? The mob with fancy titles just beams more lies into their skulls with those DNA-data-links. So what’s the point?

Rayza: I’m blocking those transmissions.

Nito (shocked): You can do that?

Rayza: The human society I came from was space-steading 12,000 years ago. What do you think my tech is like now?

Nito narrows eyes.

Rayza: I’ll tell ya what. Shoot me.

Cambia: What?

Rayza: Take one of your guns and shoot me.

Nito: You crazy?

Rayza: I have invisible, energy based armor on. (crosses arms) Shoot me with one of your primitive projectile weapons. It’ll be hilariously ineffective. Or give me your antique gun, and I’ll shoot myself. On one condition, though. If the bullet doesn’t hurt me, you agree to help anarchists I send your way.

Cambia and Nito look at each other and nod. Cambia hands a 3D-printed mini-pistol to Rayza.

Rayza (laughing): What do you shoot with this? Flies?

Cambia: It packs a wallop. Fair warning.

Rayza holds pistol to head and pulls the trigger…..

To be continued……
