The Indian peacock - is a colourful, swan-sized bird, with a fan-shaped crest of feathers, a white patch under the eye and a long, slender neck.
The peacock was declared the National bird of India in 1963. A peacock is a symbol of grace and beauty, which is co-related with Indian custom and culture.
Peacock feather is considered pure because the myth has it that peacocks and peahens do not mate to reproduce, but that the peahen gets impregnated by swallowing peacock's tears. Very strange, but this is how Indian myths go on.
Lord Krishna always adorned a peacock Feather on his head, because of its purity. Any how these birds are not caged, yet can be seen roaming here and there in our friendly neighborhood.
