Begining winter has always been vulnerable to old people. It is a matter of concern that, old people unable to cope up with the changing weather. Which results in loss of many life. For the last 10-15 days, I have seen around 8 to 10 dead bodies goi g for cremation. This includes my own elder uncle who took the last breath on Saturday. He was 89 years of age and did enjoyed his life completelly with all family and friends.
The changing weather does take a toll on these weeek bodies. The begining of winter so does the extreme summer time that i have seen people dying. Especially to the older people, who seems unable to adjust, bringing about sudden end to their life.
Cremation in our area is all about male things. Women are not allowed to enter or get near to the cremation are. They can pays their last respect at home and the male members carry the bodies to the cremation ground for all the last rites. This seems unusual bit this is how the tradition has been going on since ages. Women are not allowed to see the burning pyre.
Loss of life to any family has always been a matter of concern. They are losing an integral part of their family and their absence going tonhaunts them for longs. It's been 6 days and we still missing the departed soul. Our elder uncle who has been influential in keeping the family value intact is no more with us. His mere presence on bed used to give us good strenth and support. But now we all busy in completing the rituals in best way. Just to give him a grand salute.
In our culture it is 13 days process where the kartha (one who set the body on fire) keeps a strict routine and follow a special rituals every morning and evening. On the 10th days the male member get their head shave and then on we have a kind of Fiesta for 2 day where we are suppose to organize foods for all member of the village. This is how the things have been going on.
The process is quite li g but as a family member we all.are suppose to follow certain restrictions. Like we eat saving food (food without turmeric, onions, garlic) for next 13 days. Once the rituals is over we are free to live life normally, however somewhere the absence of the departed soul keeps on haunting us in our memory. My Dad is also going through same phase, and I am trying to save him at all possible way. Unable to bear any father loss. Hope everything goes well this year.
