This was the question I asked two weeks ago in the community Hangout session, and I got quite a few responses on this topic. The decision to build or buy a house depends on the individual's choice and most especially, on how deep his pockets are.
Yeah, both can be quite expensive, but they both have their cons and pros.
If I were to be making my dream salary and if I were to think of having a house, I would choose to buy a House at first or maybe rent an apartment that may not cost me as much. The reason is that building a House from foundation up to the full completion of the building takes time, and yeah, with quite a lot of money placed down on the project, it would not take as much.
But when something is rushed because there is quite more than enough money, I feel that not enough thought is placed over the planning and execution, so things may end up not being as perfect as you want them to be. I believe in taking time to do something at its best.
The reason for buying a house is to save time, and moreover, I would prefer to buy a house using the "rent to own" plan, where I would be paying a certain amount of money monthly for a particular period of time before it is finally mine.
That way, I would go easy on whatever money I make per month and be able to focus the remaining on other things that would yield more money in the future. Let's just call it more like delayed gratification, by waiting to build a house when it is time and when I am more than capable of doing so without having to feel the effect on my earnings.
And when I finally build a House, what happens to the house I bought? I definitely would not sell it out but would prefer to use it for rent at quite a cheaper price. This would be an act of service to support anybody coming in and also make another source of income for myself while now having to live in my newly built house.
These are my thoughts on Building or Buying a House! What about you, which would be your option and why?
