To begin, we must first see the differences between a remaster and a remake, a remake is to recreate a game from scratch, respecting the original elements and the essence of the game and in some cases adding some new things, all this with the intention of modernizing the technical and visual aspects of the game, making it a new generation game, a very clear example of a remake is Resident Evil 2, a 1998 game created from scratch in 2019.
While on the other hand, a remaster is about preserving the original game, but improving the technical aspect, and by technical aspect I mean improving the rendering, textures, resolution, audio and models, GTA: The Trilogy has been heavily criticized for the look of the characters, they say they look like cartoons, but they forget that it is a remaster, not a remake and that is why it has that look, in short, it is to improve every technical aspect of the game but without creating it from scratch.
It sounds very attractive to revive a game from the past that we are very attached to, to enjoy an improved version is a dream, but not in all cases this is a good thing, there are some remasters that were very bad, such as the remaster of Prototype Biohazard, which only increased the graphics to 1080p, causing the objects and characters look very bad, as they were not designed to be seen at that resolution, there were no noticeable improvements as in other cases.
In some cases it is the fans themselves who decide to revive a game, creating a remake or a remaster of their favorite games, as is the case of AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) a remake of the classic Metroid II from the Gameboy in 1991, released in 2016 and created by fans for PC, a remake that improves every possible aspect, giving a breath of fresh air to a game that is remembered warmly.
Many games have mods that allow to improve the technical aspects of a game and even the gameplay, and this could be considered a remaster (I think), as in the case of San Andreas, it has a very active community that is dedicated to create mods that improve all these aspects, from powerful graphics to redesigned textures and improved sounds, this also applies with Minecraft, it also has a community that is dedicated to explore beyond the limits the visual aspect of Minecraft, these two cases are some examples of what can become a game that interacts with its fans, a game that allows its players to customize a game in their own way.
Bethesda has already released several versions of Skyrim, remasters that seek to improve every aspect of the game, but to be honest, I think there are many mods that make it better, mods that make the game look like a totally new one, improving the graphics and even the gameplay, but something I wonder is: Is it worth releasing so many versions?
There are many games that we would like to be redesigned with the latest technology, enjoy it with a high resolution, with textures and improved gameplay, I enjoyed playing Sonic Mania as if I were a child, it was a visit to the past but in HD and 60fps, a game that worked as a tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog and that for me was directly a love letter to this franchise that I have so much affection.
Anyway, waiting for a remake or a remaster can mean happiness or fear, fear that they do it wrong and give us a mediocre remaster/remake with nothing new, I hope you liked it, as always if you want to go to the source of the images just click on them, have a nice morning, afternoon or evening!
