Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution Delta Reign Promo Cards Revealed
Hi there. From a Pokemon TCG email I received, the promotional cards for the upcoming Delta Reign main set have been revealed.
The promos are:
- Masquerain
- Magmortar
- Enamorus
- Kommo-o
I cover each promo in more detail. A future post will be on the promo cards and their corresponding decks in the Build and Battle Kit.
Masquerain
Masquerain is the stage 1 evolution of Surskit. The Scary Pattern first attack for 1 Energy does 30 damage plus the Defending Pokemon (of the opponent) cannot attack during your opponent's next turn.
Bug Out for 1 Grass Energy is a random attack. Reveal the bottom 7 cards of your deck and this attack does 50 damage for each Pokemon with the Bug Out attack. Shuffle the revealed Pokemon back into your deck and discard the other cards. This attack can theoretically deal big damage but you also risk discarding useful cards from your deck. It is unknown if the preconstructed deck has recovery cards.
Magmortar
Magmortar is the Stage 1 evolution of Magmar. The Buddy Boost ability is a good Energy acceleration ability that is exclusive to Magmortar and Electivire. Once during your turn, you attach a Basic Fire Energy card, one Basic Lightning Energy card or 1 of each from hand to your Electivire or Magmortar in any way you like.
Heat Crash for 2 Fire Energy and 1 Colourless Energy is a beatstick attack for 80 damage.
Energy acceleration is pretty good in general but the firepower on Magmortar is not great. Electivire has a costly attack. Having a second Magmortar and multiple Adventuring Lanterns does speed things up though.
Enamorus
All four of these have costly attacks. If all 4 are in play then the Incarnate Union ability allows these four to ignore all colourless Energy in the attack costs.
For Enamorus, Rising Heart would cost 2 Psychic Energy if all 4 are in play. You deal 100 damage plus another 100 damage if the opponent's Active Pokemon is a Pokemon ex.
Landorus is a Fighting beatstick that can discard a Stadium in play.
Tornadus can attack for zero energy if all 4 are in play. Corkscrew Dive would deal 70 damage plus you may draw cards until 6 cards in hand.
Thundurus is a Lightning beatstick.
Getting a deck with all 4 of these seems powerful. In theory you can compete against lucky players with Pokemon ex or Mega Pokemon ex in their decks. One thing I wonder is what kind of cards the preconstructed deck has. The hard part is getting all 4 in play.
Kommo-o
Kommo-o is the pseudolegendary dragon from the Sun & Moon series.
Scale Beat can be used once during your turn. You may look at the top 6 cards of your deck and attach any number of Basic Energy cards you find there to your Dragon Pokemon in any way you like. The other cards get shuffled back into your deck.
Hammer In is a strong beatstick attack that requires 1 Lightning Energy, 1 Fighting Energy and 1 Colourless Energy. It does 170 damage which should one hit knockout almost all non Pokemon ex in the prerelease format.
Other Notes
I don't think these promo cards excite me. This is something I don't say often. They are not really playable cards and these four are not my favourite Pokemon. I will still attend at least one Delta Reign prerelease. Maybe 2 but not sure.
Without looking at the preconstructed decks, I think the decks and gameplay may not be smooth. I feel like there are other better attackers than the promo cards. Regular and experienced players do have an edge in terms of deckbuilding.
The cards below seem kind of useful in prerelease. You do have to modify the preconstructed decks to fit them in.
The best attackers are either Pokemon ex or Mega Pokemon ex. Talonflame ex is the number one playable card in this set then Mega Rayquaza ex.
When the preconstructed decks are revealed, it is likely I have a strategy style theorycrafting post for the Delta Reign prerelease.
Thank you for reading.
