Beware Of Snakes In The WC
Sometimes ago or just recently, you may have heard of Snakes or other reptiles being found in the toilet WC. One thing many of us will think is – Gosh! Not me. Yet you may be a victim if precautions are not taken. They may find their way to your toilet irrespective of where you live.
How do they find their way
They come from the outside – they rarely come from within. The surest entry point is the soak away pit, underground sewage block chambers, sewage pipe lines, via cracks on the building, open spaces between doors windows or the roof. These are the likely entry points available to Snakes or reptiles into homes.
Why are they found mostly in the WC
The WC offers them a cool spot inside the house to relax and cool their body. This is pronounced during the hot or dry weather. The constant flow of water as the toilet is flushed does the work on them. Thus they can tuck inside the sewage line and the WC for a long time unknown to the house occupants
Often times, hunting for food especially rodents brings them into the sewage line.
Do they stay long in the sewage line
Yes they do. as they hunt for, catch their and swallow their prey, they stay at a place for a long time for the food to digest. They may exit and return severally into the soak away and sewage block chambers on their hunting expedition until they found the sewage line a cool place during hot season.
Here are some safety tips against snakes in the WC
• Make it a rule to check any toilet WC you intent using before seating on it
• Using the toilet in the dark is an open access to accidents. Use flashlight – thanks goodness every hand set could boast of a flashlight.
• Disinfect your toilets against Snakes at least twice a year. This is not even expensive to do as there are alternatives to actual fumigation. You can pour kerosene, salt or diesel into the WC bowl and flush. Just a cup of any the above can do. The smell does the job.
Note : Snakes does climb to upper chambers too. Its never a challenge to those occupying ground floor.
