[. I was only sick for about 10 days (Pneumonia and Malaria as well as Tonsillitis) but my boss gave me 6 weeks off to take a trip home to be with my family during the Christmas and new year period. The doctors reading this know how difficult it is to get a straight 6 week leave (No work, no calls). The day he said it, I wanted to smile and say thank you but I kept coughing and wheezing.
Anyway, I decided to use the opportunity to write an exam I've been meaning to write but have been postponing for over a year. I finally scheduled it for 6th January (last week). Unfortunately I had to leave my family shortly after we said happy new year. I didn't even get to eat and drink with them. Travelled to Abuja, Nigeria to stay with an Aunt and her kids due to the short distance between her house and the exam Center.

Despite their cuteness/disturbance, I made it through both days of the exam. Second and last day being 2 days ago. I told the kids I would be leaving the following day but they had no idea I would leave before they woke up. I feel bad though. I just keep imagining them asking their mom where "Uncle Doctor" disappeared to.

So yesterday, I went back to the village where I work at a General Hospital. I left around 6:30am and the journey to last about 6 hours, 7 max. It however took longer than expected. The car broke down on the road, barely an hour and half into the journey.

We hit a really nasty pothole. Actually we kept hitting lots and lots of potholes. People that travel across Nigeria by car would understand. I got to buy red onions and carrots at a cheap price.

I finally made it back to my place around 6pm and just as I was done cleaning my room at about 7:30 pm, I got a call from the hospital. I had not eaten, no shower, was dizzy with a little headache. I was sorta angry because I wasn't even on-call but then we're severely understaffed. I was still angry until I saw the patients. Cute little twins, about a year old. My heart melted. I quickly attended to the one I was called for and just then, a friend decided to appear at my house to borrow a pressing iron. Then my dad called. All I wanted was just to rest, get some sleep but then after everything, sleep decided to kick me to the curb.
It can be frustrating sometimes but it's worth it. Nothing beats the smile on a patient's face when they get better.
The life of a doctor is crazy in a beautiful way
