Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, which could be used as a payment, but not worldwide yet.
It was invented by an unknown programmer, or maybe by a group of programmers under the name Satoshi Nakamoto.
in 2009, it was released as an open-source software.
It uses a peer-to-peer system to send or receive bitcoin directly between users, without an intermediary.
All transactions, however, are verified by network nodes and stored in a public distributed ledger called the Blockchain.
Since the system works without any central repository or single administrator, bitcoin is the first, ever, to use a decentralized digital currency system.
As of February 2015, over 100,000 merchants and vendors accept bitcoin as payment.[18] According to a research produced by Cambridge University in 2017, there are 2.9 to 5.8 million unique users actively using a cryptocurrency wallet, most of them using bitcoin.
