We are told taxes are necessary. Taxes are good. Without taxes the nation wouldn't function. That may be true in one form or another but it is not true that all taxes represent necessity, goodness and keeping the nation going. Eg lottery tax. A guy walks into a store and buys a lotto ticket. He doesn't expect to win but at the same time he can't win if he doesn't play. And bam HE WINS. He wins 15million. FIRST the tax man comes and wants his X % lets say 20%. That would be 3 million. Millions spent on advertising telling the players play and if you win you get 15million only to find out its 12million.
Now my point is that it is immoral and totally unecessary to tax lotto winners simply for winning! Surely at the end of the year he will be taxed for wealth. But taxing them simply for winning is immoral. Winning is not a crime. Winning is not a bad thing. And the winnings do not and have never at any time belonged to the government, why?because the governemnt doesn't play. If the government wants lotto millions they should play lotto like everybody else.
It's unjust just like with the inheritance tax where the tax man has the audacity to reach into the coffin and tax dead grandma one more time before dirt touches the casket. Or other taxes. And I'm sure where you live there are many good examples of taxation simply because. Because of political ideology. Because of hate against wealthy people or hate against poor people. Or taxes against drivers out of anti car politics.
Look I am not the anti tax man. I am against taxes created out if thin air. Tax me to fix the roads NO PROBLEM.
Tax me to build and operate hospitals NO PROBLEM.
Tax me to build and operate schools NO PROBLEM.
But don't tax me because somebody doesn't like to see cars or because some political party is in cahoots with private business to push some kind of agenda.
I will not be controlled. I am not one of those people who sees a tax bill and says oh that's high so now I will sell my car and use a bus or walk.
I recently had to pay the equivalent of USD300 road tax. Fun yes?not really. But for good roads I would gladly pay it. Next I have to buy a highway tax sticker that will cost me another 50 or so USD equivalent.
The word taxes camouflages a important fact THIS IS OUR MONEY. We shoudln't have to give it up to anybody or any authority unless it is absolutely necessary to keep things running properly. Not just running but running properly.
Tax is power. Power must be used reservedly. Just because a government stamp is on something doesn't make it right. Some laws should be changed. But that's politics.
