... she couldn't stop smiling to herself as she unlocked the door of the house. Seun still felt butterflies moving in her tummy, just thinking about the event. He had kissed her. She couldn't wait to share it with Edna.
It was 6 months since the first day she had set her eyes on Matthew. He was about to break the 6 months margin after which Edna had agreed to meet him. They were happy. She was happy. He didn't make her feel like she had to drop her job for him. Things had turned out pretty well for him too. His therapy session was helping. Even though he didn't remember who he was, he was able to get back some skills that pointed him to the accounting ways and the hospital had offered him a job in their accounting section.
After Edna meets Matthew, she had planned to take a break from work so she could visit her parents. They would love Matthew; she could tell. She was the first of four girls her mum had. Which made the fact that she had preferred work to relationship an unpleasant topic in the house. One time, her super dramatic mum had come to her house crying, saying she wanted to carry her grand kids before she passed on. Seun laughed as she thought about it; it wasn't funny the day it happened though. She had to promise her mum she would take the guy she was seeing seriously.
All Edna could think of on her way was the Matthew guy Seun had been blabbing about for 6 months now. No doubts she was happy for her best friend but it just sounded more like a movie every time. Well, she was finally going to meet him this evening and see for herself. She got to the house, showered and slept off. It was few minutes past 7pm when Seun called to find out why she was late. The trip must have messed with her head.
This wasn't happening. Edna could not believe her eyes. You Bastard! She said as she took a bottle from one of the tables close to where she was standing and hit the fool who had ruined her life 10 years ago on his head. He was bleeding and people were screaming but that didn't stop her from kicking him as she screamed... Bastard! Seun heard the noise outside and ran out to see Matthew in a pool of blood with pieces of bottles scattered all over and Edna still hitting him, crying. What was going on? EDNA!!!!!! She screamed.
They were in the hospital now, another doctor was attending to Matthew while she sat there in shock listening to Edna's story. Edna knew Matthew or should she say Collins as that was his real name according to Edna. They grew up together in the village and he had made advances to her then which she turned down. Being the leader of the deadliest cult group, he got pissed when people mocked him with the rejection he faced at the hands of Edna and decided to teach her a lesson.
It was a cold Saturday night. Edna and her parents had just finished arranging the cloths they would wear to church on Sunday when some armed guys broke into their house. At first they had felt they wanted money until Collins took off his face mask. You little brat! He spat at her. You dare reject me? I will make you an object of scorn. He made the other boys tear off her cloth as they took turns to rape her. When her father tried to fight them off, he shot him in the chest which led to his demise. By the time they had left and her mum had used the little energy she had to raise alarm, Collins and his boys had disappeared from the village. It took her years to be able to step out of the house. Her mother had become hypertensive and passed away too. The village held many bad memories for her and so she had moved to the city where she met Seun.
Edna had told Seun this story before and she had helped Edna get over the trauma the incident had caused her to face. She had hated the guy and swore to make him suffer if Edna ever found him but Matthew? It was Matthew? She had been dating a demon! She was still trying to process the information when Esther came out to tell her, Matthew made it out of surgery. Esther knew of her affair with Matthew and expected Seun to be relieved but instead she saw an expression she could not understand. Dr Seun? Are you okay? Seun nodded. She was anything but okay.
She went in to see him. Hi Matthew she said. Matthew? Collins is the name. He had gotten his memories back. She just needed to see how much of a beast he was and so she called in Edna. When Collins saw Edna his eyes widened. He recognized her as the pretty girl who has brought out the beast in him. He regretted his actions but he knew that wasn't going to be enough to get back Seun's heart.
Edna had definitely told her. He could see that she was disgusted by him. The look in her eyes was enough words.
