I was having a conversation with a friend of mine some time ago when we suddenly got interrupted by a phone call on his phone. He had quickly told the person on the other end that he would call them back before hanging up the phone, and that was when the entire direction of our conversation shifted from what we were talking about to the person who just called him on the phone.
He started to tell me about how powerful the flesh can be; all it needs is a little motivation (in this case, a bit of attention) for it to totally ignore the mind, even if the person knows that the mind wants what is best for it, while the body is just looking for temporary pleasure.
Apparently he has been talking to this lady for a while now, and during their earlier stage of communication, she had made it clear to him that although she liked him as a person, he wasn't the kind of guy she wanted for herself. She had gone further to highlight some of the traits she required in her man, which clearly weren't in him, and even he had agreed with her.
But they had both agreed to remain friends and would speak on the phone for hours, basically talking about everything and nothing while laughing and giggling.
Well, he had told me that after the first conversation they had about him not being the kind of guy she wants, he had made a promise to himself never to bring it up again and had actually settled to just be her friend, only for her to revisit the conversation herself the previous day
This time, she found herself making a decision as to why she felt they should give each other a try and how she could always postpone whatever plans she had in finding the right man for herself. So basically, she was telling him that irrespective of the fact that she knows that he's not the right man for her, she's willing to look past all that and give him a try.
And he didn't have to even say a word to convince her; all he did was pay her attention, and that was enough for her to convince herself that making something her mind clearly tells her is a bad decision was good for her.
