“Two more members of the government were accused today, in one of the biggest corruption cases we have ever seen in the country. The Parliament is blocking the investigation, as the law does not permit the prosecutors to investigate members of the government without their approval….”

Andre closed the TV and threw the remote away.

“Fuck them. Fuck them all corrupt mother fuckers”, the fumed in his small living room.

Everyday day, news about corruption at the highest level of the government. He got sick of it. Those were his money they were stealing. He worked hard for that money. And for what? Why is he even paying taxes anymore?

“Something needs to be done. Someone has to stand up against them, ” he thought while pacing back and forth through the house.

Taking his coat, he left his small apartment. It was cold outside. Even though no snow has fallen yet, you could feel that winter was coming. He took a deep breath of air, before lightening up a smoke.

As he was walking on the streets, heading toward the Government building, he met up with more and more people. It seems he wasn’t the only one that was sick and tired of this charade.

In the big People’s Square, a few hundreds of people were calling for the government to step down. The people wanted no more corruption and no more embezzling of the public funds. It was too much. The patience of the people was over. It was time to rise up.

Andre joined the group, not saying a word. He still smoked that cigar he lightened it on the way. He didn’t say a word, just kept looking. Looking at the Government building. The building was lightened up. People were working.

“Are they really working?” Andre thought.

After a couple of hours of shouting and cursing the people started to leave, one by one. They have jobs to attend to tomorrow. They couldn’t siege the Government day and night. Only Andre remained.

He was a writer, who had a little bit of talent and luck. He didn’t have a job in the morning to go to. So he stayed there. He sat down, on the cold cement of the square, still looking at the building.

Time flew by and city woke up to life. People started to move and go to work. While they were passing People’s Square, they noticed Andre, who was still sitting there. Still watching. He didn’t go home all night.

“Sir, can you tell me what are you doing here?” a cop approached Andre.

“Watching the government. Someone has to keep an eye on them” Andre replied with a smile.

“Could you please identify yourself, sir? Give me your ID.” the cop didn’t even bat an eye at him.

Andre handed him his ID, the cop noted down in his small notebook and passed it back.

“Don’t you had a job to go to?” the cop asked him in disdain.

“This is my job as a citizen, sir. To watch the Government” Andred put the id back in his wallet and totally ignored the cop.

After a long time when I wrote only poetry, I dive into a really short story. I plan in the next couple of days to write more. I like to write poetry, but I truly love to write stories.
Let me know what you think about this story. Part 2 will appear tomorrow.
