When I left home
I didn’t look behind.
I am out in the world,
the world is mine.
I left the nest,
I spread my wings
and roam the open sky,
and yelled “The sky is mine!”
This is the point of no return,
is the time to be on my own,
you have to earn it,
you have to yearn for it,
You can’t stay in your nest forever,
because you’ll never learn to fly.
When I left home,
I didn’t look behind.
I went out in the world
to make it mine.

I wrote this poem last year. I've posted on steemit back then as well. But I want to repost it. Because I feel the need to share it once again.
I had a thought today about growing up. We need to grow up. We don't have that ritual of adulthood anymore. We don't get to learn what an adult means. We are thrown out from out homes directly into reality. And we need to adapt or die. Most of us don't adapt.
