Hello friends,
Had a great batch of really nice weather today and tomorrow. Might see what we are up to tomorrow to post but today we decided to just take a drive around, drop some stuff off at the post office and enjoy the sunshine.
We didn’t really plan on it but we were driving on a nice windy road in the farm country area near us and drove past a local flower farm. One of the best things about where we live is that there’s so much farmland. It’s a lot different just a few miles outside of Boston than it is in the surrounding urban areas. We had a really fun time as a family planting some annual flowers and learning about the stuff under the dirt.
These yellow flowers were really nice and I wanted to get some big ones for the local bees. It probably won’t produce nectar for a few days until the roots come into the soil but I recently learned that the bees can’t get into some of those small flowers that have nice bright colors like red and purple pansies. They like the nice big ones they can easily land on. Sigh me up to help the bees!
The little one had so much fun, he and @cmplxty stayed out for 3 hours digging and playing in the dirt. They planted a few other flowers and a bunch of seeds. We got some free seeds a couple months back and were waiting for the weather to warm up so we could plant it. They were some more good bee flowers, so checked that off the to-do list.
He was helping me dig some holes while I was out there with them and was beside his little self when he got to hold his first worm! He was a little nervous but a little too willing to touch it for my taste lol. He found 2 with me and another 8 with @cmplxty so it was a successful day for worms. We plan on bringing him fishing this summer at a local pond, can’t wait for that reaction for worms lol.
One thing neither of us would touch were these gross grubs. Found a couple huge ones, not what I was looking forward to but he waved at them and said hi nonetheless lol.
It’s been a really fun spring so far with all of the new stuff going on with the toddler. Having him to focus on is important, not only in times where the stresses of the outside world seem to be getting higher and higher for so many. There’s so much we can enjoy and be thankful for right in front of us, so we are grateful.
Stay well and positive everyone!
