On the last episode of Dragon Ball Super, we were left off with Jiren powering up further than we'd seen before. Jiren, who we'd only seen stoic and silent, mocked Toppo for giving up justice in return for more power after being knocked out by Vegeta.

Episode 127 immediately opens up with Jiren showcasing just how much power he'd been hiding and easily takes on Goku, Vegeta and Android 17 at the same time. After their futile attempts at resistance, Android 17 strikes Jiren with a large ki blast that leaves 17 slightly incapacitated and Jiren with a minor wound, showing even with Jiren's insurmountable strength, he's not unbeatable.

Although the Z-warriors put up a decent fight through coordinated attacks, they're still no match for Jiren. Frieza makes a quick appearance and decides that the rules are no longer necessary and tries to outright kill Jiren, which is once again futile as he's easily wiped out with one blow.

We finally get a look at what Jiren's motivations are and what he wants to use the Super Dragon Balls on, should Universe 10 win. In the style of a flash-back we learn why Jiren is obsessed with strength. Like something written straight out of Naruto, we learn that Jiren's parents, mentor and companions were all murdered by an evil-doer. We're shown what drove Jiren to attain the strength he has now and gives the viewer a reason to empathize with him.

After Android 17 riles up Jiren, we get a glimpse of a very human side of 17 as well, as he sacrifices himself to protect both Goku and Vegeta from a giant ki blast from Jiren. With new resolve after 17's sacrifice, we're left with a proclomation from Vegeta that he's more than enough to take on Jiren.

I was delighted with this episode of Super, as we finally get a human side to Jiren. Not only does he have an actual purpose for being in the tournament, but we also learn he too has a wish he wants granted with the Super Dragon Balls. With only a few episodes left in the tournament arc, I'm excited to see how this all wraps up in the coming weeks.
