Alex had since retired moved to a small town by the lake with his dog. In addition to being the latest arrival, and a foreigner to boot, he was considered eccentric for the sole reason that he paddled standing up on his surfboard with his dog in the bow. Certainly it was an unusual and funny thing to see, with master and faithful little dog standing on the board like figurines. The following summer Alex lost the title of the eccentric of the village for the arrival of a foreign tourist, also paddling standing on the board but with an iguana on the bow, a much more exotic and mysterious animal.

Alex da quando era andato in pensione si era trasferito in un paesino in riva al lago con il suo cane. Oltre ad essere l'ultimo arrivato, e per giunta straniero, era considerato eccentrico per il solo motivo che pagaiava in piedi sulla tavola da surf con il cagnetto a prua. Certo era una cosa inconsueta e buffa da vedersi, con padrone e fedele cagnolino ritti sulla tavola come statuine. L'estate successiva Alex perse il titolo dell'eccentrico del villaggio per l'arrivo di un turista straniero, anche lui dedito a pagaiare in piedi sulla tavola ma con a prua un'iguana, animale ben più esotico e misterioso.
