In a small village of the Sicilian hinterland all the inhabitants invariably dressed in black, a habit rooted in the centuries, dating back to a historical event of which certain testimonies were lost. In recent years, even the cats were exclusively black, another reason why the mentality of the villagers had established a granitic aversion to change. The day of the arrival of the foreigners, so was called the Parisian family who had bought a house in the village, the turmoil snaked through the streets, each countryman reported to the other the terrible news and in less than half an hour the entire population was aware of it. The following day another news shook the village: at the window of the strangers their cat had appeared and its tigerish coat was more than inconsistent and arbitrary that the villagers could conceive.

In un piccolo paesino dell'entroterra siciliano tutti gli abitanti vestivano invariabilmente di nero, abitudine radicata nei secoli, risalente ad un evento storico di cui si erano perse testimonianze certe. Negli ultimi anni persino i gatti erano di colore esclusivamente nero, ulteriore motivo per il quale nella mentalità dei paesani si era instaurata una granitica avversione per il cambiamento. Il giorno dell'arrivo dei foresti, così venne denominata la famiglia parigina che aveva comprato casa nel villaggio, lo scompiglio serpeggio tra le viuzze, ogni compaesano riferiva all'altro la terribile novità ed in meno di mezz'ora l'intera popolazione ne era al corrente. Il giorno seguente un'ulteriore nuova scosse il paese: alla finestra dei foresti era apparso il loro gatto ed il suo manto tigrato era più di quanto incoerente ed arbitrario che i paesani potessero concepire.
