Carl had always been a small child in stature, so much so that he was nicknamed baby Carl, which he obviously resented. His mother always encouraged him and to give him confidence she enrolled him in a riding course. Carl liked it a lot, in fact he was taller than anyone else on a horse. Over the years he nurtured a passion for horses, so much so that he became a famous jockey, ultimately something that most saw as a flaw turned out to be a talent.

Carl era sempre stato un bambino piccolo di statura, tanto che veniva soprannominato baby Carl, cosa che ovviamente non sopportava. Sua madre lo incoraggiava sempre e per dagli fiducia lo iscrisse ad un corso d'equitazione. Cosa che a Carl piacque molto, infatti in groppa ad un cavallo era più alto di chiunque altro. Coltivò negli anni la passione per i cavalli tanto che diventò un famoso fantino, in definitiva qualcosa che i più vedevano come un difetto si rivelò un talento.
