Superati i 300$ ognuno rilanciava di un 1$ allo scadere dei 2 minuti. Era un modo per innervosire e sfinire l'avversario. Passarono cosi altre 2 ore e furono bevute cinque tazze di caffè. La notte era buia e silenziosa, scandita dal clic del mouse e dai sorsi di caffè. Michael era determinato e paziente, poteva proseguire ad oltranza, il mattino seguente non avrebbe dovuto lavorare essendo prendo un giorno di ferie. Si infilò le cuffie, alzò il volume e mise Il Rigoletto. Il tempo scorreva tra le note e il cronometro dei 2 minuti, il globo terrestre ruotava sul suo asse, Michael saldo ed in equilibrio al centro di punto gravitazionale imperturbabile. Il libro sarebbe stato suo, non c'era dubbio alcuno, era solo questione di tempo. Non esisteva avversario al di sopra della sua convinzione, assoluta ed inscalfibile, esistevano solo lui e l'obiettivo finale.
