Harvey ne aveva visti di ragazzi che affogavano i loro problemi nell'alcol. Si presentavano da lui quanto era arrivavano ad un passo dall'irreparabile oppure quando un loro compagno di bisboccia dall'irreparabile non sarebbero più tornati. Condividere la dipendenza e raccontare la discesa nel vortice non era facile, bisognava mettere da parte il senso di vergogna e le bugie, guardarsi allo specchio alla cruda luce dell'onestà, per quello che si era e per quello che non si riusciva ad essere. Rincuorava vedere di non essere i soli, ma la battaglia contro se stessi e contro la realtà troppo dura e impietosa era giornaliera, senza sosta e senza fine, e così sarebbe stato fino alla fine. Harvey aprì la porta del centro alcolisti anonimi, nuove facce spaurite varcarono la soglia, e chi tornava a varcarla aveva in fondo all'anima un lieve ma persistente germoglio di sollievo.
