The day started downtown Hill Hawaii as I walked around the corner from the hostel we had stayed in and I found this bridge at the edge of town and just had to take a picture.
Leaving the city we decided to take the long road and stay as close to the shoreline as we could during our journey. It wasn't long and nature called so we pulled to the side of the road for a moment of relief and another picture.
Whoaaa, lava rock and clear blue water crashing against it. Unreal. Now that's something you don't see in South Texas. That's incredible I thought to myself as I walked a little closer and looked to the right I was taken back at the view.
We got back in the car and I was fixated on green. Green grass, green trees, green green green, everything is green here. The road we took was narrow and in between all the green were glimpses of blue water and sunshine. My god Hawaii is insanely beautiful. It wasn't much longer and the several cups of delicious coffee had caught up to us again so you guessed it another rest stop / photo op, this time at a local park.
OK it's a park entrance but exiting the vehicle and walk around the corner and shazaam.
Get outta here.. Check this place out. OMG I'd be here everyday I thought to myself. A perfect little lagoon carved out in by the lava flow years ago. Unreal the vibe I felt. People lounging, children giggling, the sound of the surf crashing against the rocks, the tradewinds blowing in your face. (Deep cleansing breathe) over to the left of the pond I found yet another surprise.
At first glance you might think (what? more rocks) if you look way over to the left of those rocks you'll see a bunch of heads bobbing in the water. Yep. You guessed it local surfers waiting for the swell to roll off the reef into a tiny cove and the I didn't get closer or get a picture of it, that swell stood up a clean barrel wave breaking to the right that was incredible, tho short lived.
Onward we go being pulled away from the park we came out of the Forrest and again I was amazed as we topped the hill and pulled over yet again to drain the many cups of coffee . What? Lava. It's an old lava flow from the last time they had an eruption.
Lava as far as you can see.
Rippled lava.
Broken lava.
Bubbly smooth lava. More lava than I have ever seen in my life lava. I could have ran around that lava flow for the whole day and did for hours with my dead cell phone in my pocket. But where did all that lava come from... Alas we arrived shortly after the breathtaking setting of the sun at Hawaii's Volcanoes National Park where I got this picture of the Halemaumau crater which is actively erupting in the distance.
I was amazed at the sight and the sound. I was taken back at how chilly and cold it was way up on top of the mountain overlooking the crater. Hawaii, specifically The Big Island of Hawaii is a definite must see. I've read post here on steemit claiming / displaying images of heaven on earth and thought surely these people had not been to the islands where heaven is being created daily. The beauty of my travels there barely compared to the beauty of the people I met while there. If heaven is on earth it is to be found in the spirit of aloha on the island chain of Hawaii.
Mahala for letter me visit and sharing your love.
Hope you enjoyed my photo travels.
