ONLY WE KNOW
Only we know if this is our race
Only we know if we are setting the right pace
The life we live,
Only we know if it's real or fake
Only we know if this is our way
If we are literally afraid of what people might say
Only we know
Are we being lazy or really hardworking?
Being faithful or untrustworthy?
Only we know if we are really making progress
Only we know about the unfinished business
The words we speak,
Are they the reflection of who we claim to be
Only we know
Only we know which battle is still unfought
Mountains left unclimbed
Project left untouched
Care still not shown
Feelings left unexpressed
Love which is still unconfessed
Only we know
Only we know if we are truly busy
To have time for our family
Only we know what we take as priority
That costs us our real identity
That puts at stake our fidelity
And puts us at the mercy of impropriety
Are we climbing our mountain?
Or celebrating at the peak of smaller ones?
Only we know
We claim boldness in the guise of fear
And we know we are not the way we appear
Only we know
There needs to be no pretence
Only we know,
How we trade our high summit
For an easy one to reach
And we fake a cheerful victory
Only we know it is not our victory
