Splinterlands Fan Art Week 254 - Summoner Aquatus!

Good day, everyone! Welcome back to my fan art of one of Splinterlands card. For this fan art, I drew Aquatus, a water summoner. Anime One Piece has been the talk of the town recently and lots of fan arts are posted in different social media sites. And then I stumbled a fan art Roronoa Zoro of One Piece and used that as reference for this fan art because they quite have a resemblance as a fighter.

Here is the card reference image of Aquatus in Splinterlands.

Lemell is a flooded realm covered in vast oceans. The Aqua Sapiens, a splinter of humans with gills and webbed fingers and toes, inhabit the shallow waters surrounding its islands and archipelagos.

Aquatus was young when the Chaos Legion came and the dark god drained his home of magic. When the Riftwatchers followed, the Aqua Sapiens remained wary, not knowing whether they were friend or foe. But when a landing party arrived on an island near his home, Aquatus was curious. He snuck into the Riftwatchers’ camp late at night and stole a satchel. In it, he found waxed scrolls bearing ancient runic symbols, and something stirred within him. He became obsessed, and for years after the Riftwatchers left, he studied the runes, even fashioning a bandolier so he could carry them with him everywhere he went.

When next the Riftwatchers visited Lemell, Aquautus sought them out. They promised to teach him how to harness the power of the runes if he joined their fight against the Chaos Legion. Aquatus agreed without hesitation, leaving Lemell and his people behind for the promise of a new beginning.

This fan art was done when Aquatus was still young and practicing his skills to fight the invading Chaos Legion. I started with the sketch in reference to Zoro. After I got his pose, I traced the sketch and applied two layers of line art, one with a solid line and one with a blurred line. I then moved on to applying flat colors and then the highlights coming from his weapon and under his body, where the light source cannot reach. I used separate layers for his tattoos and applied a glow effect to them. For the background, I initially wanted it to be black only, but that would be boring, so I added colors of purple and blue. I also added a lightning effect coming from his weapon. And lastly, I apply the blur effect and change the color of the purple to burnt orange.

Here are the step-by-step image of my fan art.
