Spineback Turtle Stats!

Spineback Turtle is a Water element monster that I often use when using a Water Splinter. This is a good mini tank in Bronze league, especially when the ruleset is Little League. And what I really love about this card is that its Thorn ability can be used in Silver league already. It also has an Alpha edition that contributes to DEC reward bonuses if you win.

Let's take a run down of this card's stats and I will also discuss one of my battles using this card.

Spineback Turtle
Edition: ALPHA/BETA
Rarity: COMMON
Element: WATER
Attack: MELEE
Abilities: Thorns at level 4.

As you can see, at level 1, it has 1 Speed, 1 Melee Attack, 0 Ranged Attack, 0 Magic Attack, 2 Armor and 6 Health. For me, this is a good stat of a monster that costs 4 mana only. At level 4, it will have the Thorn ability that when hit with a Melee attack, does damage back to the attacker. Also at level 4, the Armor and Health increased by 1.

Battle Rules!

Let's check first the rules of the battle.

Rules:

Little League: Only Monsters & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles.
Healed Out: All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.

Mana Cap: 17
Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death

My Lineup

In the available elements, the only missing is the Dragon element. Upon reviewing my enemy's recently played teams, I assumed that the enemy will use Light Element.

Summoner: Bortus
Most of the players that I encountered so far in Silver league use Water-mage deck to battle. To counter this strategy, I often use Bortus to negate the +1 Magic Attack from ALRIC STORMBRINGER. Also, Spineback Turtle is a melee monster so I think Bortus is the best summoner for Spineback Turtle.

Pos 1: Spineback Turtle

Little League only allow monsters that cost 4 Mana or less and Spineback Turtle is by far the most efficient tank to use in this battle. I assumed that the enemy will not use a magic type deck so Spineback Turtle's Thorn will be a huge help to win this battle.

Pos 2: Sabre Shark

I put Sabre Shark to Pos 2 to deal damage to the last monster of the enemy's team using its Sneak ability. I assumed that the enemy's Pos 1 will have armor and the attackers will come from the back. While Spineback Turtle tanks the damage afront, Sabre Shark will help reduce the damage by killing first the attackers.

Pos 3: Naga Windmaster

I used Naga Windmaster to reduce the ranged attack of enemy monsters, just in case the enemy use GENERAL SLOAN to give allied monster a +1 ranged attack. This will make Spineback Turtle's health to last longer in the battle.

Pos 4: Halfling Alchemist

I used Halfling Alchemist to reduce the attack power of enemy's Pos 1. With this, it will reduce the damage that will be dealt to Spineback Turle while the Thorn ability adds additional damage to the enemy.

Pos 5: Creeping Ooze

This is a very reliable card because of its cheap mana cost and ability which is to reduce the Speed of enemy monsters. It also has 1 melee attack at level 4.

Pos 6: Furious Chicken

The role of this card is to tank the damage coming from the back to protect my range monster from direct hit. It also has 1 melee attack at level 4.

Let's Battle!

Let the battle begins!

The enemy used LORNA SHINE to summon Light monsters. This gives Divine Shield ability to all allied monsters. The enemy's Crystal Jaguar's armor and Armorsith's ability will be a hassle to battle. The enemy's line up also has Battering Ram and Feral Spirit that will deal damage to back line monsters. The enemy also used Divine Healer but I think the enemy forgot that all healing abilities are disabled.

After Round 1, enemy's Feral Spirit annihilated my Furious Chicken. That's good considering that the role of Furious Chicken is to tank the damage coming from behind.

My Halfling Alchemist's ability is not quite useful because most of my enemy monster's attack power is just 1. And attack power will never go below 1 even after Halving's effect took place.

After Round 2, the enemy's Battering Ram and Feral Spirit annihilated my Creeping Ooze and Halfling Alchemist. My Spineback Turtle's Thorn did a good amount of damage to Crystal Jaguar. My Sabre Shark is still trying to defeat the enemy's back line monsters.

After Round 3, my Naga Windmaster got annihilated while enemy's Divine Healer and Crystal Jaguar got annihilated.

After Round 4, I thought my line up will lose because the enemy still has two attackers while I left with my Spineback Turtle.

In Round 5, my Spineback Turtle's Thorn did its job to the enemy's Crystal Jaguar.
Its Spineback Turtle versus Feral Spirit in Round 6!

In Round 6, I will lose if Feral Spirit attacked first, but hey, Spineback Turtle attacked first! However, its attack missed! LOL!

And so, its a DRAW.

Let's Recap!

Spineback Turtle played a great role here as a tank with sufficient HP and armor in order to stay alive while its Thorn is doing extra damage to enemy melee attackers. Overall my strategy worked out perfectly even though the match ended as DRAW just because Spineback Turtle's attack missed! Another option that I considered in this battle is to put Spineback Turtle to Pos 6. In this manner, it will tank the damage from enemy melee's back line attacker while they suffer from Thorn ability.

Even though there are lots of cards now from Chaos Legion Water element that can serve as tank, I will still use Spineback Turtle in Silver league as mini tank mainly because of its Thorn ability. This card is very useful for Rulesets Up Close and Personal, Equal Opportunity, Melee Mayhem and ofcourse Little League.

It was nice using this card again and again and it really does have a nice stats for a low cost tank.

Replay

Here is the full replay of the battle. Enjoy!
