Hello, everyone! It's time for another Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge from Splinterlands. In this post, we will discuss the 'Briar Patch' ruleset, where all units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back. For this battle challenge, I will share a Bronze League Brawl battle. Let's take a closer look at the card I used to win in this ruleset and how it contributed to my team's victory.
Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back. Damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up. Melee attack units with the Reflection. Shield ability do not take damage from thorns. The Amplify ability increases damage. |
Battle Configuration
For this battle, there is a specific ruleset and a mana cap to consider:
Ruleset: Briar Patch
Explanation: Briar Patch: This means that all units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle.
Additional Rulesets: Fog of War: Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.
Melee Mayhem: Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position.
Mana Cap: 16
Active Elements: Fire, Water, Life, Dragon
My Lineup:
Summoner: Kelya Frendul
First Position: Djinn Oshannus
Second Position: Merdaali Guardian
Third Position: Igor Darkspear
Fourth Position: Torrent Fiend
Strategy: I chose this lineup for the Briar Patch ruleset because using Range and Magic will ignore the Thorns ability. Since one of the rulesets is Fog of War, my Merdaali Guardian can provide full support to Djinn Oshannus. I think this lineup is well-balanced, considering the mana cap and rulesets.
Let's Rumble
The enemy also used Kelya Frendul as the summoner and Djinn Oshannus as the main damage dealer. Instead of Merdaali Guardian, the enemy opted for Venari Marksrat to boost Djinn Oshannus' stats.
At the end of Round 1, Venari Marksrat was defeated and this boosted enemy Djinn Oshannus' stats. The enemy has now higher stats compared to mine.
However, the enemy has no support and Djinn Oshannus has the Void Ability and this round inflicts zero damage to my Djinn Oshannus while the enemy's HP was down by 1.
Moving to Round 10, my Djinn Oshannus still has 10 HP because of Merdaali Guardian's Tank Heal while the enemy was left with 1 HP
And since the enemy has no healer, enemy Djinn Oshannus was defeated at Round 10 and the battle concluded in Round 12.

One of the best ways to counter the Thorns ability is by using Magic Attacks. So, in order to win, you need to counter the enemy's Magic Attacks. Most of the time, this strategy works.
