Imagine… Imagine that your life flows in the course of the ancients. The sky above your head is an amazing spectacle, so amazing that it confuses the senses and dominates the emotions of the creatures. Your sky is an incredible work of art that reveals, with absolutely no effort, the infinity of our universe: This countless set of stars, assembling a divine natural roof in your daily life: this Milky Way.
And here you are, tiny, powerless; an insect that enjoys, however, the blessing of contemplating every night the universal spectacle in its most transcendent expression. Thus you understand without words your priceless privilege as a creature that has been blessed with life, and for that you feel grateful. Then you lower your head and bow your body in reverence to the existence itself. Spontaneously you touch the ground and bow even more, as if you wanted to drill the earth to express in the most perfect manner a colossal feeling of smallness that possesses you to the vastness of the Whole.
I am nothing, tiny. I am a shooting drop whose private existence will end tomorrow, when I join the body of the sea again.
It is interesting that the word Islam means submission, acceptance, resignation; and it is only one of the numerous examples of religious expressions that directly reflect these deep feelings of men, witnesses of the greatness of existence; understanding with no escape, to the depths of their souls, their own irrelevance.
Thus were born the traditional religions that defined our past, at the center of such living conditions that revealed the most important truths of human existence. Religious feeling is originally a mystical astonishment in front of the spectacle of nature. But that feeling sank into the mud of the civilizing development; it was buried along with the living conditions and customs that, in the first place, made it emerge.
The man no longer finds a divine spectacle conducive to trance when he raises the gaze to the heaven. Now the surrounding universe does not offer him daily discourses on human insignificance and the shortness of life. The mystical feelings that once married with religious symbols moved away. Today those symbols remain alone, unattended and thirsty for connections with reality. The bond died, mysticism died, trance died; therefore, religions are now empty containers that humans fill with their lies.
Imagine again. Imagine that every day you possess the messages of the universe and they make you grateful for the existence. You have prostrated yourself to your gods… but it is time to attend to worldly life. However here there are no televisions, smartphones, computers or screens. Here you don't even find books so you can get lost in other people's heads. Your connection with the Whole and with the Nothingness remains untouchable. Your humility remains spotless.
But soon the first sick members of your race will appear; those saturated with pretensions; those who mention their undeniable greatness.
They will push the race into wars against life, against the gods of all peoples and against nature.
They will fight against the primary truth of their lives.
They will mask the heaven to no longer see their own smallness.
They will kill gods until the moment when there is only one left… a small, pusillanimous god. Then they will take their place, because they wanted to be gods from the moment when dementia took their spirits.
Madness will spread completely across the Earth, and you… my friend, you must then fight to recover the ancient memories of your childish soul. Then the virtue of your consciousness will become necessary, for at that moment you will understand that our disease will not heal spontaneously.
Your consciousness is a remedy, a happy remedy of your mind which, then, hopefully, will be able to experience again the ecstasy of an unpretentious life.
As an example of the mystical perspectives that still survive in some minority nucleus of religions, I would like to share with you this video made by a close friend. In it, Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah speaks about beauty and truth in his vision about the heart of Islam.
