Rema is one of those artists I thought would fade away soon, as it used to happen back in the days when social media and streaming platforms were not there to promote songs and artists. But even in these days when these platforms are available to heavily promote artists and keep them buzzing all the time, some artists still fade away easily. This guy, Rema, is just still there, making "bangers" as he usually introduces his songs with "another banger."
When I heard about this song, TEA, playing on the radio, I couldn't just resist rushing to YouTube to see if the music video had already been released, and hey, I met the video there with a million and more views on the first day it was released.
This song, TEA by Rema, was released on 7th August 2026, and since then, it's been a "hot" party song playing in all clubs and at parties. The song is from Mavin Records, one of the biggest music labels in Africa as a whole, and also Jonzing World, his first music label.
The video of this song aligned very well with the audio itself, and big kudos should be given to the video director, Annie Bercy.
The little intro is superb. Two Asians, seated in an Asian house setting, are drinking tea, just like we see in Asian movies, especially those from Japan, Korea, and China. Then, they start talking about their crush on a guy, with a plan to attend a party that night to meet the guy. Everywhere starts shaking, and that's Rema and his crew making noise outside with their motorcycles, announcing the party of the night.
The chorus of this song is crazy, and the idea should be applauded every time.
"The girl, her body is tea tea tea tea tea tea..."
This part gives the song a flow that makes someone lose a nut in their head and start dancing. Although the lyrics are referring to something else, the rhythm and rhyme are what take someone from full mode to dancing mode.
The lyrics, though, mean that the girl's body is like a tea that someone drinks. Well, this is an idiom crafted from the Nigerian way of thinking, so it may not be meaningful to other people who are not Nigerian. But let me still break it down...
You know how the dark or chocolate skin of a dark-skinned lady looks? You know how beautiful it looks? You know how the hidden curves look? That's what Rema is referring to. The body is so sweet in colour and taste and is likened to a cup of hot tea.
