![New World Water Documentary. Part 1]()
Many of our wastewater treatment systems were built decades ago. Aging infrastructure leads to leaks, spills, and inefficiencies, putting our water quality at risk. Pollution is another major threat. Urban runoff carries chemicals and debris into our waterways. Industrial discharge and agricultural activities add harmful nutrients and toxins, disrupting ecosystems and endangering public health.
Many of Georgia’s lagoons and lakes are out of compliance with environmental standards. This not only harms wildlife but also poses risks to the communities that rely on these water sources.
Our water resources are under unprecedented stress. We’re working to update regulations and invest in infrastructure, but it’s a race against time. Public awareness and action are critical. Through water testing, we’ve seen alarming levels of pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorus. These nutrients cause harmful algal blooms, which can be toxic to both humans and wildlife.
The Chattahoochee is more than a river—it’s a way of life for Georgians. But without immediate action, we risk losing this precious resource. Everyone has a role to play in protecting it.
